National Gallery Kvadrat 500: THE INTERNATIONAL BIENNALE OF GLASS 2021
The third edition of the International Biennale of Glass expands its scope and presents 158 artists from 41 countries in the exhibition galleries of Kvadrat 500 and the New Bulgarian University. The National Gallery is the event co-organiser.
At the already traditional forum, having earned their place on the international art scene, professors and students, eminent artists and debutants, selected authors and special guests, all stand shoulder to shoulder. In the exhibition at Kvadrat 500, the magical glass mass unites geographical projections, national and ethnic diversity, individual emotions, and universal messages. The variety of genres and the broad technological range, from the craftsmanly mastery of traditional techniques and classical methods through to the richness of experimental practices and the use of new materials and media, will challenge the public to experience the full gamut of emotions, philosophical and social aspects of contemporary art.
The event is made possible with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Embassies of the Netherlands, the Russian Federation and the Czech Republic in Bulgaria, the Italian and Hungarian Cultural Institutes in Sofia, the Central Fund for Strategic Development of NBU, the Tianaderrah and Next Generation Bulgaria Foundations, the American Foundation for Bulgaria, Bohemia Machine s.r.o. (Bomma) and Lounjee.
